Electric Vehicles (EVs) are vehicles propelled by one or more electric motors powered by rechargeable battery packs. Thanks to several distinctive advantages over internal combustion engine vehicles, EVs are in the midst of disrupting the entire automobile industry. A primary advantage is their energy efficiency. Electric vehicles convert over 77% of electrical energy to power at the wheels versus just 12% to 30% of the energy stored in gasoline to power at the wheels. In addition, EVs have significant performance benefits: they are quieter, have stronger acceleration, smoother operation, and require less maintenance than conventional vehicles. Plus they have the potential to reduce air pollutants if/when electricity originates from nuclear and renewable energy sources.
